Transforming Growth Factor ¥â and Connective Tissue Growth Factor in Skin Fibrotic Disorders
Kazuhiko Takehara
Abstract
INTRODUCTION

Various fibrotic disorders such as scleroderma, arteriosclerosis, liver cirrhosis etc. are
interpreted as overheating, namely excessive process of wound healing. It has been
suggested that growth factors and cytokines released from inflammatory cells and
platelets in the organ involved play an important role in the initiation of connective
tissue fibrosis. Among these, we have focused on both transforming growth factor ¥â
(TGF-¥â) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF). I have been working on
scleroderma for many years, therefore the data described here are mostly related to
scleroderma.
